The route in

How you become a domestic energy assessor

  1. 1

    Train and qualify

The recognised route is the Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment. Courses mix classroom or online study with assessed site work on real properties.

  2. 2

    Join an accreditation scheme

You lodge certificates through a government-approved scheme such as Elmhurst Energy, ECMK, Quidos, Stroma or Sterling. They audit your work and provide the software.

  3. 3

    Get insured and equipped

Professional indemnity insurance is required by every scheme. A laser measure, a camera, a torch and a tablet cover most visits.

  4. 4

    Find your first jobs

That is where a panel helps. We book work into your diary, so your first months go on getting fast and accurate rather than chasing agents.

What we can help with

Plain answers from people who have done the first year

  • Which training provider and scheme suit where you live and how you work
  • What a realistic first year looks like: jobs, rates and travel
  • Kit that is worth the money and kit that is not
  • Adding retrofit, stock condition or MEES work later on

Already qualified and insured? Apply to join the panel and we will get you working.

About us

Who we are

Assessor Access is a panel for domestic energy assessors. Agents, landlords and housing providers send us the homes that need assessing; we book the visits and fill our assessors' diaries, and every certificate goes to the customer the moment it is lodged. A small office team runs it, and a real person answers every message.
